The Story Behind the Project
After experiencing postpartum anxiety and depression following the birth of my first child, I became deeply interested in the way we care for women during pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition into motherhood. That experience ultimately led me to leave a career in corporate finance and return to school, earning my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University. Along the way, incredible mentors helped shape my path into perinatal mental health, including joining a research team and contributing to multiple manuscripts focused on maternal and perinatal mental health.
Today, I’m a mother of two, a therapist in Florida, and an endlessly curious advocate for improving the way we support women and families. Global Motherhood Project grew from that curiosity: the desire to look beyond our own systems and explore how maternal mental health and perinatal care are approached around the world. My hope is to bring those ideas, research, and conversations together in one accessible place so we can learn from what’s working elsewhere and imagine what better support could look like here at home.
